Preparing for the Turku Sales Competition

Hey everybody! Welcome back to this week’s dosis of TUASpire!
This time we thought about writing what comes to our mind while thinking about the week that we are all training for: The Turku SalesWeek! Or in other words, the Turku Sales Competition (TSC).
Even though we actually got a lot of information about the competition, we still feel like we don’t know anything. And we can’t blame the teachers for that. That’s mainly because we never experienced something comparable during our former studies. Nevertheless, we are of course very excited to find out how everything will work out. Of course, all of us can talk and we all know how a product or service should be presented. But in order to actually sell it, we also have to convince the buyer. That takes a bit more than just talking. Handling objections properly in a foreign language is the “biggest problem” for most we have spoken to.
Our preparation started when the classes of our teacher Timo Holopainen started. So, we are training now for quite some time, but some of us do feel that they have to practice more. Confidence is the most valuable trait that we need during the competition. How should a buyer be convinced of you if you aren’t convinced by yourself? And with training there goes confidence.
So, what to do to train ourselves beside university? The most common answer to this question was: Talking to my roommate, searching the internet for tip and tricks and listening to some sales podcasts. The best way however is learning by doing! Thankfully we didn’t have another option in Timo’s classes than participating in the training sessions. The only thing that would probably help all of us a bit more, is to see a real sales meeting by two professionals, to get some sort of insight of how it would be in real life.
But all in all, we think that this sales week is as close as it can get to real life during university. There will probably be some that aren’t interested in sales at all, but even for those people the sales competition has benefits. Knowing how to sell in a proper way can help you throughout your entire life. No matter if your opinion, your suggestion or even yourself during a job interview, there is always a situation in life where the theory of selling can help you out.
So, thank you all for reading our weekly blog, we hope that we inspired you again!
