Greetings from TUASpire

Hey there it is us again TUASpire, together with our second article we want to start getting to know each other a bit better. So from now on we will introduce one staff member per week, starting with Yannick Weinzierl, our German Project Manager.
For more information, beautiful pictures and stories, go on Instagram and follow “tuaspire”. But no more self-advertisment, let’s get started.
“Servus mideinanda!” is what it is called in Bavaria, Germany. And for everyone else “Hello everyone!” I am Yannick, 20 years old and as some of you probably already heard, I am from Bavaria Germany. So what is the mission of a Bavarian guy in Turku Finland you might ask. That’s simple! I have been studying “European Business” in Regensburg at the OTH Regensburg for two semesters already. In this field of study, it is usual -more like mandatory – to study abroad for one year. So here I am. I chose Turku mainly because of its beautiful destination and the unique landscape here in Finland. Finland also is not the typical country I would spend my holidays in, so I guess it is perfect to at least study here. At the time I made my choice COVID-19 wasn’t a thing at all. Now there it is present all around the globe, there is no better way to escape than here in Finland. Of course, you still have to take it seriously but during this hard time, Finland offers still a great opportunity to life as normal as possible.
To sum it up: I am very glad to call Finland my home for the next few months!
I was asked to write a bit about differences between Germany and Finland regarding studies.
You should also learn a bit by reading this blog, I guess. So the first days in University for me were really interesting. Once I was allowed to enter university after quarantine, the first thing that crossed my mind was, how open, friendly and modern it was designed. Of course, there a new and old universities in every country but compared to my home university, that is actually quite new as well, TUAS is on another level. Our first lecture was in the ICT-City. As I went into the lecture-room I was out of words. It was comparable to a cinema in Germany. Also the lecture itself and the way of learning is different than in Germany. In Finland it is more about reflection and interaction. A huge part of the studies is also organized in group work etc. The content, however, is a bit deeper and more difficult in Germany. But I guess every student would be ok with that trade. In my opinion you can learn much more by learning it yourself in groups and presentations, than by simply listen to lectures from Professors. The only thing that is way better in Germany is, that you have one student card for everything, including buying meals in the cafeteria, using public transport in the entire city and it can be used for identification. So that is quite a useful thing but I got used to the system here in TUAS. Sadly, there isn’t more that I can tell you due to my very short time at the university so far. However, the main points are covered.
So that’s basically it for today. As I mentioned before, the best way to stay connected to us is following us on Instagram (@/tuaspire). I hope you got to know me a bit better, next time someone else is getting featured, so stay tuned and healthy.
Have a nice day and enjoy life!
Yannick
