Five Fellows - 17th Turku Sales Competition

In this post we will go through the feelings of the sales competition, preparations for it, and the day of the competition. The Turku Sales competition is a role-playing game in a B2B sales situation. The competition is held twice a year, in autumn and in spring and is a part of the Sales Module at Turku UAS. This time we had a sales case from Wärtsilä.
Preparations
Training for the sales meeting started early in the spring, when we started doing sales exercises in small groups in the Sales Workshop course. But the real preparation started on 4th April, when we got the 1st round case. Some of us started preparing already on Monday and others on the weekend, we did what we thought was best. Since none of us are native English speakers, we had to read through the case several times to make sure we got the point and that we noticed everything that was important.
After reading the case carefully some of us started by making presentation and others writing notes. We looked through the websites, the pre-materials, and the glossary, as there were a lot of new technical words. We trusted that well planned is half done, although knowing Timo, there are always surprises.
Competition day
On 11 April, it was a very exciting day, the day of the competition. We each had our own meeting time in different meeting rooms, and we had 20 minutes to keep the presentation and have the conversation with the buyer.
In the morning, we went through our notes and waited for our turn to start. Timo always asks us about our feelings before, during and after the meeting so here they come:
2 hours before: Excited
2 minutes before: Panicked
During: Do not even remember
After: Relieved
But now it’s done, and everyone got through this with flying colours. But after all, the sales competition was a really great experience and certainly through such practical experience you learn more than you really understand.
We’ll be back with the results of the sales competition after the final so stay tuned!
